APPLICATION ENGINEERING GUIDE

Welded block heat exchangers for condenser duty

Select the flow arrangement around vapour behaviour and condensate removal. This guide describes assessment requirements, not a completed customer case.

Existing unit and duty
For a retrofit, provide the current condenser datasheet and arrangement. Define vapour composition and flow, condensation pressure, required condensate temperature and cooling-side conditions.
Problem to assess
Identify the actual constraint: insufficient duty, pressure drop, non-condensable accumulation, fouling or limited installation space. Do not assume a new exchanger resolves a system constraint.
Scope and material
Define total or partial condensation, subcooling requirements and the operating envelope. Select wetted materials against both process and cooling media.
Verification
Evaluate the thermal balance, vapour-side pressure drop, distribution and drainage across the operating range. Agree inspection and acceptance requirements for the selected design.
Result to establish
Confirm required duty, outlet conditions and allowable pressure drop against agreed acceptance criteria. No customer operating result is asserted by this guide.
