APPLICATION ENGINEERING GUIDE
Welded block heat exchangers for corrosive service
Material selection starts with the actual fluid and operating envelope. This guide does not claim a completed alloy-service project.
- Existing unit and duty
- Collect the existing materials, fluid analysis, temperatures and inspection history. Include contaminants, cleaning chemicals and intermittent operating conditions.
- Problem to assess
- Determine the documented damage or compatibility concern before selecting a replacement alloy. A nominal fluid name is insufficient for material selection.
- Scope and material
- Consider available stainless steels, titanium or other corrosion-resistant alloys only after reviewing suitability and fabrication requirements. Include panel seals and other wetted parts.
- Verification
- Review material specifications, traceability and project-specific corrosion evidence. Define further testing or specialist assessment where the available evidence is insufficient.
- Result to establish
- Confirm the agreed material basis and inspection plan. Corrosion life or improvement cannot be inferred from the alloy name alone.
