APPLICATION ENGINEERING GUIDE
Refinery and petrochemical heat recovery
Evaluate heat recovery using matched hot- and cold-stream data. This guide describes an engineering workflow, not measured customer savings.
- Existing unit and duty
- Provide the current heat balance, stream properties, flow rates, inlet and target outlet temperatures, and operating range.
- Problem to assess
- Separate thermal limitations from fouling, pressure-drop limits or process variability. Identify usable heat demand as well as available waste heat.
- Scope and material
- Compare a new recovery duty, plate-pack replacement and complete-unit replacement as applicable. Include piping interfaces, cleaning access and compatible wetted materials.
- Verification
- Confirm the thermal balance and pressure drop for the specified operating cases. Review fouling allowance, maintenance requirements and instrumentation for acceptance.
- Result to establish
- Use measured flow and temperature data to verify recovered duty after commissioning. State energy or cost savings only when the baseline and operating data support them.
Send Your Process Data for Heat Exchanger Selection
Provide both fluids, flow rates, inlet and outlet temperatures, operating and design pressures, allowable pressure drop and material requirements. For a replacement, include the nameplate and arrangement drawing.
