CONDENSATION & INDUSTRIAL UTILITIES
Steam Condenser Heat Exchanger Selection
Specify steam-side conditions and condensate handling as well as cooling duty. The channel arrangement is engineered for the selected operating envelope.
- Define the steam duty
- Provide steam mass flow, pressure, temperature and whether the inlet is saturated or superheated. State the required condensate outlet condition and any subcooling target. Include turndown and pressure variation, plus expected non-condensable gases or contaminants.
- Specify the cooling circuit
- Identify the cooling medium, inlet temperature, available flow and acceptable outlet temperature. Provide operating and design pressures and allowable pressure drop. Check the duty at the most demanding cooling-medium condition rather than only an annual average.
- Review venting and condensate drainage
- Assess vapour distribution, non-condensable removal, condensate drainage and backpressure with the surrounding system. Confirm orientation and connection requirements on the approved arrangement drawing. The exchanger and condensate system must be assessed together.
- Agree the verification basis
- Specify the required condensed flow, outlet condition, pressure drop and inspection documents. Confirm the cleaning method and panel access. Use measured steam or cooling-side data and an agreed heat balance for commissioning acceptance.
