Welded Block Heat Exchangers for Refineries

Evaluate welded block equipment for a defined refinery duty, including heat recovery, process cooling, condensation and reboiling.

Start with the unit operation
Identify the process location and required function before selecting the exchanger. Define whether the task is liquid–liquid recovery, overhead condensation, a reboiler or a utility duty. Provide both fluid compositions and all relevant operating cases.
Assess fouling and maintainability
Share solids content, viscosity, deposit history and current cleaning intervals where available. Channel selection must account for fouling and pressure drop. A welded plate pack is not fouling-proof; removable panels support inspection and appropriate mechanical cleaning.
Confirm the pressure and material envelope
Review operating and design conditions, transient cases and corrosive components with the applicable project requirements. Confirm alloy, seals and wetted interfaces together. Use the selected unit’s design limits rather than a generic maximum from a product family.
Plan replacement within the installation
Check plot space, nozzle arrangement, support loads, lifting access and the shutdown window. Compare complete-unit replacement with core replacement where relevant. Define any piping modifications and required inspection or acceptance documentation.
